Google switched to Material You design language with its new operating system Android 12. This new design language can be summarized as a much more simplified and personalized material design. This new Android 12 design has now started to show its effect for mobile Chrome as well.
Chrome mobile takes the first step to adapt to Android 12 design language
Although Chrome mobile is constantly undergoing design changes, it still has some elements that are not very suitable for the Material You design language. One of them is the download bar notifications.
This very old notification bar is not very compatible with Android 12 in terms of both design and usage. A recent Google Chrome mobile update that 9to5Google came across revealed that a new design for these download bar notifications is being trialled.
For now, it is not clear with which update these new notifications will come. Again, on Chrome mobile, a flag regarding this feature was not opened. As you know, flags are a method Google uses to try out new features.
With the new feature, the Chrome download notification bar at the bottom will now be at the top. This notification bar will be visible after the download has started. When the download is finished, a new notification will come and this bar will be at the top for us to open the content. Here we see a design with softer edges instead of the old download bar.
This new download notification is in the trial phase for Google Chrome mobile on the Google Pixel 6 series. It is possible to get rid of the Chrome mobile download bar notification bubble by swiping right. It is not yet clear whether this new notification bar is compatible with changing color according to the background.
Android 12 is especially at the forefront with its design that adapts to the colors of the wallpapers. New interface design, iOS-like control center design are among its new features. You can find more detailed features about Android 12 from this article.
