The evolution of the automotive industry to electric motors has been going on for a long time. The leading names of the industry are announcing that they will switch to completely electric motor vehicles with the statements they make one after the other. However, there is a company that exhibits a timid attitude at this point. This company is Toyota, based in Japan.
Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda made a remarkable statement about the future of the industry. Acknowledging that electric motor vehicles are reliable in terms of carbon emissions, Toyoda explained that this is a neglected issue. According to Toyoda, this issue is that with the production of electric motor vehicles, the need for manpower in the automotive industry will decrease.
“At least 5 million people may lose their jobs”
According to Toyoda, by 2030, Japan will produce around 8 million cars with internal combustion engines (including hybrids). According to the researches, 50 percent of them will be exported. Referring to these statistics, the Toyota CEO says that Japan’s economy is based on production, and that the production of cars with internal combustion engines falling to zero will reveal unnecessary workers in the production chains. According to Akio Toyoda, the cancellation of 8 million vehicle production means that around 5.5 million employees working in the sector will be laid off.
Toyota CEO says Japan should act on its own terms, not on the decisions taken by European countries. In this context; Reminding that the link between reducing carbon emissions to zero and protecting the Japanese economy should not be forgotten, Akio Toyoda states that the solution is to increase sustainability in hybrid motor vehicles.
