Nvidia, which recently released the RTX 4090, the flagship graphics card of the Ada Lovelace architecture, decided to leave behind the dual 8-pin sockets used today and move to the 16-pin PCIe Gen5 socket that supports up to 600W of power. In the past weeks, it has been revealed that these cables have melted after long use. Now, the official explanation for the burning RTX 4090 graphics cards has been shared by the company.

Caused by incorrect plugging of the power cord

Earlier this week, GamersNexus, which conducted a collaborative investigation of 50 meltdowns reported globally, concluded that the alleged problem was caused by improper wiring or body scraps from manufacturing. Responding to this research, Nvidia confirmed that the melting problem may occur when the power cable is not inserted correctly.

In addition, the chip giant states that “all users, including Founders Edition or special models, will be supported, regardless of which cable is used,” the chip giant recommends that users make sure that the cables are firmly and properly inserted before inserting the card into the system.

 

According to the data released, global RTX 4090 sales are estimated to be over 125,000 units. For this reason, we can say that it constitutes 0.04 percent of the 50 cases. Nvidia reported that research on melting cables, connectors and adapters continues.
