Since the original iPhone in 2007, the mute button has been around for a long time. And finally, Apple replaced this button with the Action Button with the iPhone 15 Pro models. But the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models continued to use the old mute button.
Now, a new rumor claims that Apple will not keep the Action Button limited to Pro models, but plans to add it to the entire iPhone 16 series and iPhone SE 4.
According to the news published by MacRumors, this button will not only receive an upgrade but will also become a feature on all iPhone 16 phones. Extending this to all iPhone 16 models makes sense to simplify assembly and support. This means Apple has to source, assemble and repair fewer components.
According to MacRumors, Apple will add and improve this mechanical part to all iPhone 16 models by replacing it with a capacitive-type button. This button, codenamed Atlas, will work like Touch ID on the iPhone 8 and will give tactile feedback instead of a click when you press the button.
According to the publication, Apple is also working on the new Capture button planned for the iPhone 16 Pro, which will work with a force sensor. However, MacRumors underlines that it is still not clear what this button does.
