BlackBerry, which has accomplished successful works in the phone market for a while, but has not been able to keep up with the changes since 2010, has moved away from its old days like Nokia, is currently on the agenda with a critical decision it has taken. The Canadian-based manufacturer announced that it has terminated the basic services that support its devices as of today.
BlackBerry withdraws support from models running its own operating system
The company published an explanation text on the Frequently Asked Questions page last week and announced that as of January 4, 2022, the relevant phones will lose their cellular network and Wi-Fi support. In short, the devices in question would lose their basic functions and become unusable. Here is the full statement made by BlackBerry;
Legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. As of this date, these legacy services and software via carrier or Wi-Fi connections will no longer work reliably, including data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functions.
Phones running the versions given above have lost all support and become unusable as of today. Thus, with the latest move made by BlackBerry, an important question in the minds of users has been answered.
As you know, the company has largely withdrawn from the telephone business in 2016 and started to produce special software for businesses and institutions. In this process, although some moves were made to re-enter the sector, whose market share had almost bottomed out, it could not create the desired effect because it was far from its former popularity.
Despite all this, there were opinions that BlackBerry would return one day. But considering the last move made, there seems to be no plan for the time being.
