German automobile giant Volkswagen has announced that changes will be made in one of its most popular models, the Golf. According to the statement, the internal combustion engine cycle will come to an end with the eighth generation Golf models.
Thomas Schafer, the head of the passenger car department of the brand, announced that the ninth generation Volkswagen Golf will be fully electric, and it will be a first.
The all-electric Golf will arrive in 2028,
Volkswagen says it plans to have the ninth generation on the roads in 2028, which will bring the end of the internal combustion engine in Golf models. The auto giant added that we will continue to see GTI and R versions in the all-electric era.
The all-electric Golf will be built on the company’s new SSP platform and will be the first of its kind. In this way, features such as 800-volt electric architecture and faster charging will be included in the vehicle. It is also said that advanced driving assistance packages such as autonomous driving can be found in the vehicle. Finally, it should be noted that the electric Golf will join the company’s electrified product range by placing alongside the current ID.3 and the upcoming ID.2.
In the meantime, we should not pass without mentioning the current Golf 8. Volkswagen says it will be upgraded to comply with the European Union’s emissions regulations so that the current model remains popular. So by 2028 we will see another Golf with an internal combustion engine.
