Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was developed by Niantic and WB Games and released in 2019. The game, which is an adaptation of the Harry Potter films, which is a part of the wizarding world created by J. K. Rowling, was made specifically for the augmented reality market after the popularity of Pokemon Go. However, the last day was announced for the production, which was not as successful as its competitors.
Support for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is ending!
Niantic said in a public statement that support for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will end soon. Then the company announced in today’s announcement that it will shut down the AR game on January 31, 2022.
The company plans to remove the game from the App Store, Google Play and Galaxy Store on December 6th. On the same day, it will also remove all in-app purchases from stores and within production. Although it could not reach as many players and income as expected, people who are active users were very upset about this situation.
The company made the following statement about its decision to stop working on the game:
With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, our goal was to bring the spirit of the wizarding world to life as we take millions of players out and explore their neighbourhoods. We achieved this together with you. We will also share with our users a two-year narrative story that will be completed soon.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the second production that Niantic has decided to end in the last two months. Even when this game was not widely available outside of a few select markets in September, the company announced that it had stopped development of Catan: World Explorers. The producer studio said that in those days, just as it does now, it would apply what it learned from its past experiences to future projects.
These latest releases likely include Pikmin Bloom, which was recently released in Singapore and Australia, as well as the upcoming Transformers: Heavy Metal. The company said it is working on a total of nine games and apps, some of which will be released next year.
