WhatsApp is getting a new feature against the danger of spam and fraud. According to a statement by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp will now have the ability to automatically mute calls from unknown numbers. This will filter out calls from unregistered numbers.
WhatsApp gets Unknown Call Mute feature
WhatsApp continues to gain privacy-focused innovations. The new feature coming to the messaging application will provide more protection to users by filtering out unwanted calls. If you activate the feature, all calls from unknown numbers will be silenced and you will not receive any audible or visual notifications.
If you want to activate the feature, you can go to Privacy > Calls > Mute Unknown Calls. Although you will not see notifications after this setting, you can check the muted calls from the calls list. This list will include the note “muted unknown caller”.
WhatsApp has improved the last feature against spam calls. The platform, which first developed a machine learning-oriented system, said that it developed a system that automatically detects spam calls. Accordingly, 50 percent of unknown calls were silenced before the user.
While the new call mute feature is remarkable, it still has its shortcomings. For example, when you activate this feature, someone who is not registered in your contacts will be automatically muted. So even if it’s someone you know, you won’t see the call.
WhatsApp also introduced a “Privacy Control” that introduces privacy features to users. This tool discusses the various privacy options available on the platform and tells users about it.
