The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus are quite impressive and offer powerful hardware, with 50 MP outperforming the iPhone 14’s camera. However, an apparent issue is making the photos of some S23 users blurrier than they should be.

First reported by NotebookCheck, the issue is strange blur patterns (banana or ring-shaped) appearing on some images, causing areas that need focus to appear blurry.

Also, these images are captured using the raw mode of the Galaxy S23, meaning the image comes directly from the sensor and is not modified by software at all. This also suggests it could be a hardware issue.

This is how NotebookCheck exhibited the S23’s focus problem in text-based examples.

Samsung has not yet made an official statement on the matter. However, as reported via Sammobile, some users say that manually focusing their S23 camera can ensure their photos don’t have unwanted blur. This means that the problem can be fixed by Samsung with a camera software update. In short, it is not possible to know what the solution will be without knowing exactly why the problem is caused.

Still, until Samsung releases some sort of fix for this issue, all Galaxy S23 owners should recheck their photos during an important photo shoot.
