Developed as part of a project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Camaliot app will use sensor data from Android phones connected to satellites to improve weather forecasts.
Weather models will be improved with the collected data
Developed with the thought that more information can be obtained about the atmosphere by using satellite signals, Camaliot, the signal strength of the observed satellites transmitted from the Global Positioning System (GNSS) satellites, the distances to the observed satellites collects carrier phase and number of carrier phase cycles data.
On the Camaliot website: “Using crowdsourced GNSS data from many mobile phones around the world, we rely on weather forecast models for more accurate forecasting of local precipitation events. We hope to generate better inputs.” statements are included.

Android 7.0 Supported on all devices with version or higher, the Camaliot app can get the best access to data on smartphones with more than 50 dual-frequency receivers listed. Listed devices include Xiaomi Mi 8, Google Pixel 4A, Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Ultra.
