AMD continues to offer faulty manufacturing APUs on next-generation consoles to the computer market. So much so that the first tests of the AMD 4700S platform were shared in the past years. Now EuroGamer has managed to reach the AMD 4800S desktop kit used in the Xbox Series X. So what does this APU offer against existing systems? Here are the details

AMD’s Xbox Series X desktop kit tested

As reported, the AMD 4800S has 8 Zen2 cores and a disabled RDNA2 graphics unit, unlike the 4700S kit. It also offers a major upgrade over the 4700S in terms of PCIe bandwidth and modern interface availability. At this point, the APU with two Gen4 x4 M.2 slots for storage and Wi-Fi includes twice as many SATA ports, an NVMe slot, better heatsink support compared to its sibling.

It should also be noted that unlike most desktop systems, the AMD 4800S has GDDR6 memory (16 GB capacity). Although this configuration offers twice the bandwidth of DDR4 memory, it is positioned as a single module rather than dual channel.

As for the results, the AMD 4800S falls between both APUs in gaming performance, compared to the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G. It should be noted that it performs twice as low as the Ryzen 5 7600.

It was previously said that desktop kits such as the 4800S and 4700 will be more widely available from 2022. But even taking samples for review is too complicated, EuroGamer says.
