The flagship of the Ryzen 7000 series processor family, the Ryzen 9 7950X, continues to demonstrate impressive overclocking performance. It looks like AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series will be a great toy for those looking to overclock.
In a recent test by US overclocking specialist Sampson, the Ryzen 9 7950X was overclocked to 6.5 GHz using an LN2 (liquid nitrogen) cooling solution. Ryzen 9 7950X ran stably on test systems using ASRock X670E Taichi and ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E GENE motherboards.
Ryzen 9 7950X is ambitious and more efficient at overclocking
The Ryzen 9 7950X scored 48,235 points in Cinebench R23’s multi-core performance test and drew a maximum power draw of 271W (74 percent load). It should be noted that all cores of the processor run at 6.5 GHz and 1.4V. A second test was conducted in Cinebench 20: the Ryzen 9 7950X again reached 6.5 GHz (1.40V) here and drew 270W (68 percent load). The score obtained is 18,605.
Considering that the Intel Core i9 13900K requires 1.5V and consumes around 400W to get 6.2-6.3GHz overclocked on all cores, the wattage displayed by the Ryzen 9 7950X looks very impressive.

It should also be noted that in another test, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processor was overclocked at 6.7 GHz on the Gigabyte X670E AORUS Xtreme, and the CPU scored over 50,000 in Cinebench R23. Additionally, all these results were achieved with LN2 cooling, and temperatures were always below zero during testing.
Model | Kernel/Trace |
Boost/Base Frequency |
Total Cache | PCIe | TDP | Price |
Ryzen 9 7950X | 16/32 | 5.7 / 4.5GHZ | 80MB | Gen 5 | 170W | $699 |
Ryzen 9 7900X | 12/24 | 5.6 / 4.7GHZ | 76MB | Gen 5 | 170W | $549 |
Ryzen 7 7700X | 8/16 | 5.4 / 4.5GHZ | 40MB | Gen 5 | 105W | $399 |
Ryzen 5 7600X | 6/12 | 5.3 / 4.7GHZ | 38MB | Gen 5 | 105W | $299 |
All this data we see that AMD is extremely efficient with its Zen 4 core architecture. This is important not only for desktop Ryzen processors, but also for processors on the mobile side. On the other hand, the Ryzen 7000 series will go on retail sales on September 27.
