AMD, which has done successful work with Zen architecture on the server side as well as on the desktop side, is reaping the fruits of this. The market share of the company, whose quarterly revenues broke a record, also broke a new record.
AMD’s record market share
According to market research by Mercury Research, AMD reached 27.7 percent for the first time in its history. Compared to the same period last year, an increase of 7 points was achieved. In the last quarter, the record was broken with 25.6%. The research covers all processor categories based on the x86 architecture.
Chip casting costs exceed mountains
18.3 percent share in desktop category AMD achieved a 22.5 percent share in the rising laptop market. On the server side, it broke a new record with a share of 11.6 percent. It is stated that EPYC processors attract great attention in this period.
Another noteworthy situation was that AMD’s significant success coincided with the time the overall processor market dropped by around 30 percent in the quarter. It is the first time in history that the processor market has fallen so sharply between two quarters.
AMD’s focus on the server side, which is more profitable, does not go unnoticed. Especially in the period when the chip crisis continues, desktop processors are produced relatively less. Balancing production in the coming period will accelerate AMD’s rise.
