AMD announces Ryzen XDNA AI engine
For those who don’t know, the XDNA AI engine will basically be a custom accelerator positioned on the chip along with the CPU cores. We can compare this to the VPU that was recently introduced in Meteor Lake processors. With the new technology, AMD plans to prepare the operating system and software ecosystem to perform AI-related tasks natively on the PC.
Reportedly, the Ryzen XDNA engine will support 4 simultaneous AI streams in addition to bfloat16 commands. At this point, AMD claims that XDNA AI is faster than the neural engine found in Apple M2 processors. Therefore, it should be noted that a new competitive environment will emerge in the next generation processors.
It has not yet been announced which products the Ryzen XDNA engine will be integrated into. However, the new technology was spotted in action at the Computex 2023 event on a laptop equipped with a Ryzen 9 7940HS and Radeon 780M graphics card. Therefore, we think that more details will be shared in the coming days.
