AMD managed to make a splash with the Radeon RX 7900M, which was recently introduced and launched as the “fastest Radeon laptop graphics card ever developed.” Finally, the first results from the mobile GPU started to appear on the internet. The flagship GPU will compete with RTX 4090 specifically for laptops.

Radeon RX 7900M surpasses RTX 4090

For those who missed it, AMD Radeon RX 7900M, built on the RDNA 3 architecture, is recorded as the first laptop GPU to offer chiplet design in addition to the company’s most powerful Navi 31 chip. This is something even arch-rival Nvidia can’t do due to power/thermal constraints.

If we go into technical details, mobile GPU, 72 AMD RDNA 3 processing units with artificial intelligence and second-generation ray tracing accelerators, 144 artificial intelligence accelerators, 16 GB 18Gbps GDDR6 VRAM, 256 Bit memory bus, 1825 MHz (up to 2090 MHz) clock It comes with speed and 160W TGP. Additionally, this figure can be increased up to 200W with SmartShift technologies.

In terms of performance, the Radeon RX 7900M scores 171,430 points in Geekbench’s Vulkan benchmarks. When we make a small comparison, we should point out that this is 9 percent higher than the RTX 4090 mobile and 25 percent higher than the RTX 4080. It also has almost similar performance to the RTX 4070 Ti desktop graphics card.

The OpenCL scores of the flagship GPU are around 144,611. This is 11 percent slower than the RTX 4080 mobile and indicates a performance between the RX 7800 XT and 6800XT. However, let us remind you that Vulkan results are more important for games. So it looks like AMD has finally succeeded. The GPU that currently powers the Alienware m18 model will appear in more models very soon.
