AMD exploded the bomb! Introducing Ryzen 7950X3D, Ryzen 7900X3D, Ryzen and 7800X3D

AMD has officially announced the Zen 4 3D V-Cache series, which includes the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors. The processors introduced a few hours ago as part of CES 2023 are the most powerful processors AMD has ever made.

AMD Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache processors are built with 2nd Generation V-Cache, resulting in a more efficient cache design. AMD only showed up in this area with the Ryzen 5800X3D in the Zen 3 series. Now, the company is expanding its product range with three processors.

Performance beast AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D features

Let’s start with the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D first. Ryzen 9 7950X3D, which will be the first 16-core CPU with 3D V-Cache technology, has 32 threads and a total cache of 144 MB (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 16 MB L2). The processor, which has a TDP of 120W, has a base clock speed of 4.2 GHz, which is 300 MHz slower than the 7950X in terms of clock speeds, but 5.7 GHz is preserved in terms of maximum clock speed. The fact that the Ryzen 9 7950X3D has 50W lower TDP seems to be due to the frequency difference.

At the heart of the Ryzen 9 X3D processors, AMD has provided the 3D V-Cache configuration by locating the SRAM cache on a single CCD instead of both CCDs. In this way, the second CCD die is preserved in order to achieve higher clock speeds compared to the previous X3D processor. So the Ryzen 7000X3D processors seem to have completely covered the Ryzen 5800X3D’s weaknesses, and both gaming and professional application performances are balanced.

The second chip is AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, which will have 12 cores and 24 threads. The processor has a total cache of 140 MB (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 12 MB L2), with base frequency speeds of 4.4 GHz, which is 200 MHz lower than its non-3D variant. However, this processor can also reach the same 5.6 GHz at maximum clock speed. Its TDP is 120W.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D specifications

Finally, we have the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the successor to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. This CPU has 8 cores, 16 threads and the same 104 MB cache (32 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 8 MB L2). Therefore, it seems to be an ideal choice for gamers. However, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a base clock speed of 4 GHz that is at least 500 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X and a maximum clock speed of 5.0 GHz, which is 400 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X. TDP is 120W. Interestingly, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a higher TDP than the Ryzen 7 7700X (105W) even though it runs at a lower frequency.
So we can assume that this revolutionary cache design from AMD requires a significant amount of power and has greatly optimized both the base and max frequency speeds on the Ryzen 9 X3D processors to meet AMD’s 120W target.

When it comes to performance, we can say that the most important comparison is between the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D promises up to 30 percent performance improvement over the previous generation. AMD isn’t sharing any details like test settings or configurations used here, but if these results are correct, we could see the Ryzen 7 7800X3D be just as popular as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. AMD hasn’t announced any pricing information yet, but has confirmed that the Ryzen 7000X3D processors will launch in February.
