Qualcomm, which produces the best chipsets in its class in the smartphone world, has been working to enter the computer market for a while. Detailing the processor development goals for the desktop computer, Qualcomm CEO said that they will also be the best in this market.

Qualcomm’s computer processor will be released in 2024

Qualcomm, which has recently become a favorite of smartphone users with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, has determined the roadmap for the computer. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said in a recent interview that they could enter the PC market in 2024.

The hardware giant plans to work with CPU company Nuvia, which it recently acquired, to design computer processors. Expressing that they want to develop a CPU that will lead desktop systems, CEO Cristiano Amon said that they will play to the top in this market as well.

Qualcomm plans to use Nuvia’s ARM-based architecture to enter the PC market and compete with companies like Intel-AMD. “With the acquisition of Nuvia, we aim to take the lead in the PC chip world,” CEO Amon said in his statement.

Apple’s development of its own processor with M1 and M2 chips accelerated the work of Qualcomm. Still, the company’s new launch date doesn’t seem to match up with previous statements.

Qualcomm’s original goal was to make the announcement in August 2022 and start shipping in the second half of 2023. But Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said during the interview that shipments will be delayed to 2024.

“You will see Snapdragon-based Windows PCs with a Nuvia-designed CPU by the end of next year or early 2024.”
