Starfield, Bethesda’s space exploration RPG, will be in gamers’ hands in less than two weeks, and Jerret West, Xbox marketing chief and corporate vice president of Microsoft Gaming, said it’s “a relay of custom games that will be great for Xbox.” He seems hopeful that it marks the beginning.
In an interview with GamesRadar+ at Gamescom, West said Starfield represents “community joy and social joy” for Xbox, noting that such an ambitious and unique game doesn’t come out very often. West reminded that this is the start of a great era for Xbox, and other games like Forza Motorsport and Avowed are on the way.
“I think Starfield represents the starting weapon of the relay in some ways, which will be great for the Xbox,” West said in his interview. “And when I say Xbox, I mean the console and PC gaming communities. You see that all these games will be released on the same day and date on Game Pass on PC and console. We have Starfield and Forza. And if you think about 2024, we’ve already announced things like Avowed and Hellblade, and maybe you’ll get a chance to play Towerborne. All of these games are a sort of relay race submission point to truly create and shape how people experience Xbox as a brand. I think of it more as the start of a relay race that will be quite special for us in the next few years. And there are many championships that will contribute to winning this race.”
Starfield will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6 and will be available on Game Pass. However, early access will begin on September 1 for those who own the Premium or Constellation versions of the game.
