When deciding to purchase a product, reviews of previous purchasers have now become the number one factor influencing our decision process. Of course, some people and groups who knew this started to share deceptive/fake comments about the products. About this long-standing situation, e-commerce giant Amazon has made a new move.
Amazon has filed a lawsuit against the administrators of more than 10,000 groups on Facebook. The company accused group executives of making people fake reviews in exchange for money or product rewards. It was shared that the groups in question operate on Amazon’s US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan sites.
Fake reviews have been around for a long time, especially in some categories:
A study by The Washington Post in 2018 revealed that fake reviews really dominate categories such as bluetooth headphones and health supplements. The Post shared that these comments were created by the organization made especially in groups on Facebook.
This isn’t the first time Amazon has filed a lawsuit against fake reviews:
Amazon has been fighting against fake reviews within its own body for a long time. So much so that the first of the company’s lawsuits against fake comment groups dates back to 2015. The company was able to emerge victorious from many of these lawsuits and ensured the closure of the groups. But of course, these results did not make the groups disappear completely.
