Car sales start on Amazon
The company announced that it made an agreement with Hyundai that will allow dealers to sell cars through the site. According to what was announced, customers will be able to browse cars on Amazon and make the purchase using their preferred payment methods. On the delivery side, it will offer customers two options. Customers who wish will be able to pick up their vehicles from a nearby dealer or use the home delivery option.
Perhaps an important detail is that the final seller of the purchased vehicle will still be the dealer. So Amazon will be an intermediary between the customer and the dealer. It’s not clear yet whether the company is in talks with other automakers about listing their vehicles on the site. Amazon is slowly moving into the auto space by offering virtual showrooms and price comparison tools for select brands. Certain car parts and accessories can also be purchased through the site.
As part of the agreement with Hyundai, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will be available in Hyundai vehicles starting from 2025. Hyundai will also use AWS for cloud services. Amazon will start selling Hyundai vehicles only in the USA for now. It is currently unclear whether the process will be activated for other countries.
