“I have known Panos for many years and believe he will make a great contribution to the company. He is a passionate leader about product development and I look forward to seeing what we can do together. We will be working closely with him over the next two months to ensure a smooth transition throughout our fall launches and OP1 planning,” Limp said in a statement. “I will work,” he said.
Why did he leave Microsoft?
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy described Panay as “a strong product developer and inventor with extensive experience in both hardware and integrated services.” He also stated that he will make a great contribution to Amazon’s D&S (Devices and Services) organization going forward. Panos will take office at the end of October. Limp will also head the aerospace company Blue Origin.
According to Business Insider, Microsoft decided to focus on the most popular devices in the Surface series and abandoned many of the experimental projects. Additionally, the company laid off some employees in its Surface division. These strategic changes are said to be the reason why Panos Panay left Microsoft so suddenly.
