Amazon CEO Andy Jassy answered questions from the Financial Times this week. Jassy talked about his attitude towards generative algorithms based on neural networks and said that his company has been working in this direction for a long time.

Andy Jassy said: “I find it exciting what can be done with generative algorithms. It’s part of what you already see in models like ChatGPT. But most big tech companies like ours have been building huge generative models based on AI for a long time.” used his statements.

Microsoft is clearly ahead

Amazon already uses AI technology and machine learning in some of its products, such as voice assistant Alexa and coding assistant CodeWhisperer. But some investors are raising concerns that the company is lagging behind in generating algorithms designed to render text, images, videos or other content.

“Microsoft is clearly in the lead, and that’s very remarkable,” said Matt McIlwain, managing director of Madrona Venture Group, one of Amazon’s main investors. He also said that Amazon needs to take into account its tendency to create smart and productive apps.

Alexa is better than ChatGPT in some aspects

In an interview with Andy Jesse, it was said that Amazon is considering partnerships with smaller companies to develop its generative algorithms business. For Amazon, the most likely partner in this space might be Stability AI, which developed ChatGPT and is a competitor to Open AI powered by Microsoft. This is supported by the recent announcement by Stability AI that it prefers Amazon’s cloud infrastructure to train and develop its own AI models.

Among Amazon’s prolific algorithm projects is the Alexa voice assistant, which was released in 2014. Recently, Amazon’s VP of Devices and Services, David Limp, said that the company continues to work on improving Alexa. He also noted that while ChatGPT is a competitor to Alexa, it lacks the personality, memory, and current affairs knowledge that Alexa has.
