Amazon has announced that it is using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to minimize the distance between the product and the customer.
Stefano Perego, Amazon’s Vice President of North America and Europe Operations Services, gave information on the subject in a statement to CNBC. Perego said artificial intelligence plays a role in various aspects of Amazon’s operations. Perego stated that this technology provides support in areas such as mapping and planning routes, taking into account variables such as weather conditions.
Artificial Intelligence Helps Amazon Achieve Its Goals
The vice president said they also use artificial intelligence technology to help customers find the right product when searching for products on Amazon.
Perego explained that another area that they think is important for reducing the cost of service is product placement. Perego said in a statement: “I am sure you are familiar with the wide range of products we offer to our customers. “Imagine how complex the problem of deciding where to ship products is, placing it in a way that reduces the distance to customers and increases the speed of delivery.”
Amazon is prioritizing its regionalization initiative, which aims to get products to customers from nearby warehouses rather than remote areas.
AI technology plays an important role in Amazon’s achievement of this goal. According to Perego, the company’s efforts have been successful, with more than 74 percent of customer orders in the United States being fulfilled from nearby distribution centers.
