Amazon union workers in the UK are going on strike for the first time over low wages and “hard” working conditions. Darren Westwood, one of Amazon’s warehouse workers who participated in the strikes, said the robots were better treated while describing the process as historic. “Someone said the other day that we’re being treated like robots – no, robots are being treated better,” Darren Westwood told CNBC.

98 percent of GMB union workers at Amazon’s Coventry supply center voted in favor of the “historic” strike, and earlier this year announced a strike date of January 25. It is expected that 300 out of 1,000 workers at the Factory will participate in this strike. an employee participating in the strike

Employees want better working conditions from Amazon. Amazon employees complain of long working hours, high injury rates and relentless work pace, as well as strict supervisor monitoring (questioning of need breaks, etc.). But the biggest backlash is a ridiculous 50p (56 cents) hourly wage increase. Employees reject this pay rise, which is well below inflation, and demand £15 per hour (currently £10.50).

On the other hand, Amazon made statements on the subject. Amazon said the size of the strike accounted for only 1 percent of its UK employees. The firm said wages have risen 29 percent since 2018, with a one-time payment of £500 to fight inflation. Amazon also mentioned the benefits offered to employees such as private health insurance, life insurance, subsidized meals and employee discounts.
