We know that game makers put many hidden details and easter eggs in their games. As players, finding or learning even the smallest detail has either surprised us or brought a small smile to our face.

It is possible to encounter such surprises in almost every game of Bethesda. That’s why Starfield is no exception for us. If you are curious enough, you can find references to previous Bethesda games and many events in this space-themed game. Here are the highlights:

Starfield meets Death Stranding.

If you go to the UC Distribution Center in New Atlantis in Starfield, you will encounter an NPC named Johann. When you meet Johann, he will tell you about his passion for delivering products across Embedded Systems. The further you go in conversation with him, the more clear it becomes that he’s referring to a mailman from the video game Death Stranding.

At the end of the speech, Johann said, “Keep on, keeping on.” (Go on, go on.)” he says, making a sweet reference to Death Stranding players. It was a nice touch that showed the friendship and respect between Hideo Kojima (Kojima Productions), the producer of Death Stranding, and Bethesda.

PO-TAY-TOES! When you look at the description of any potato in Starfield, you may notice some reference to the Lord of the Rings meme.

In The Lord of the Rings, Sam tells Gollum what a potato is and says “Po-Tay-Toes!” The scene where he says “Boil ’em, mash ’em, stick ’em in a stew.” became an internet meme for a while.

Bethesda also makes a clear reference to the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers scene by writing “boiled, mashed, used in casseroles” in the description of the potatoes in Starfield.

Note from Alex Hay

When Bethesda announced Starfield at E3 2018, it both delighted and surprised gamers around the world. Unless we assume different developers did it, the last game that Bethesda developed and published itself was Fallout 4, released on November 10, 2015 (Fallout 76 had not yet been released at that time).

App producer Alex Hay announced in March 2023 that he was stopping treatment for lung cancer and entering palliative care as of September 2022. Hay, who passed away a few days after the announcement, had been following the Starfield project for years. Thereupon, Bethesda decided to immortalize him within the framework of Starfield rules.

If you visit The Eye station, which orbits Jemison on Alpha Centauri station, you can find a note written by Alex Hay.

Breaking Bad in Starfield?

In New Atlantis, when you enter the Aurora laboratory, you will see NPCs wearing the iconic yellow laboratory suit we are used to from Breaking Bad. It is obvious that Starfield is a reference to Breaking Bad.

Interestingly enough, these NPCs produce a substance called Aurora that has psychedelic effects when consumed. Just like in Breaking Bad, Walter White and Jesse produce this kind of substance.

It is possible to see the Pyramids of Giza, one of the oldest man-made structures, in Starfield.

In Starfield, you must go to the city of Aquila on the planet Aquila to find the Pyramids of Giza. You need to visit Ajhong Sinclair’s bookstore and buy the book “The Ancient Civilization of Egypt”. You will then be informed about visiting Cairo, where the pyramids are located.

By visiting these structures in Starfield, you can see if they still stand the test of time. It still baffles us that these structures have remained intact for so many years.

The planets of the star Alpha Centauri and their moons were named after real astronauts.

If you are really interested in space, you have already noticed this detail, but for those who missed it, let us point out that the planets and moons of Alpha Centauri are named after the real space travelers who took humanity into space.

Alpha Centauri is the star system closest to Sol, or Earth, and consists of four planets and eight moons. If you’re interested in space and already playing the game, it’s hard to miss this easter egg and you’ve probably already traveled here.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see a reference to Apollo 11 in Starfield.

For those who don’t know, the Apollo 11 mission was the first human mission to successfully land on the Moon. Seeing a reference to this event in Starfield, one of the most comprehensive space games, made us players very happy.

When you go to the Moon, Luna as it is called in the game; the radar will show a landing area; If you found Sir Livingstone’s second diary, a quest marker will also appear. Just surface and you’ll be greeted with a rocky landscape. The lunar module (Apollo LM-5) stands alone on the huge map, with the American flag next to it.

You can climb to the top of the lunar module, pick up the snow globe containing Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Apollo LM-5 and add it to your collection.

The Empire State Building, New York’s crown jewel, which has been standing intact for almost a century, is also featured in Starfield.

To find the Empire State Building in Starfield, you need to take the coordinates in New Atlantis and go to Earth, that is, Sol.

Go to New Atlantis and go to the MAST area. Reach a large building with a MAST sign at the entrance. Enter the elevator inside the building and go up to the ”Central/Command/Office of the President…” floor. Go to Mayor Abello’s office and take the book Our Lost Heritage from the table. Then travel to the Sol System, mark the Empire State building on the map to land near the building.

Later, you can see the Empire State Building, which we call America’s games, standing intact with a few wears.

The robotic exploration vehicle, which operated on Mars from 2004 to 2018, was also featured in Starfield.

During your first visit to the NASA Launch Tower, you’ll need to interact with the MER Program exhibit. There’s room to find a bunch of other exhibits on the left side of the lobby area. After completing the Unerathed main story mission, when you come to the tower again, you will not be able to access the area where you can access all the exhibits. So it’s important that you can do it while you’re here.

After viewing the exhibit, you will receive a notification that it has been added to the activity list. When you go on a mission, don’t forget to take the snow globe on top of the Opportunity Rover.

Arrow to the Knee meme: There is an obvious reference to the Skyrim meme, which once again took the internet by storm, in Starfield.

The phrase “then I took an arrow in the knee”, which is on the lips of every guard in the Skyrim universe, became an internet viral at one point. Bethesda must have noticed this, too. In Starfield, you can see a skill dedicated to this event in the skill tree.

Starfield, which takes place in an infinite universe, contains many easter eggs, referring to many events due to the fact that it is a Bethesda game. Which one did you like the most?
