NASA aims to land humans on the Moon surface again as part of the Artemis mission it launched. The Artemi 1 test mission was carried out in the past months. In the Artemis 3 mission, NASA aims to land humans on the Moon. On the other hand, the Agency is also expanding its options for future assignments. NASA chose Blue Origin for the Moon landing system to be used in the Artemis V or Artemis 5 mission.

Alternative to SpaceX

NASA has selected the company to perform the third crewed Artemis Moon landing. Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company will build the landing system for Artemis V, which is scheduled for launch in September 2029. While they don’t talk about vehicle selection, the company is currently working on a Blue Moon lander. Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Draper will be among those involved in the NASA project. Meanwhile, the value of the NASA and Blue Origin agreement was announced as $ 3.4 billion.

The Orion capsule will take four astronauts to the Moon, where two of the crew will use a Blue Origin lander docked at the Gateway space station to land on the Moon’s south pole. They will also perform a week of moonwalks, rover operations and science experiments as other astronauts expand and maintain the Gateway. NASA has already selected SpaceX’s Starship for the first (Artemis III) and second (Artemis IV) human landings. The agency said last year that it would accept offers for a second landing craft to both provide a backup and encourage competition.
