The arrest of Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev in the Netherlands was confirmed by Pertsev’s wife.

Pertsev’s wife confirmed the rumors swirling on Twitter, in a statement to The Block.

Tornado Cash Developer Arrested

Ksenia Malik, who married Pertsev in September of last year, said that the Dutch Financial Information and Investigative Service (FIOD) arrested Pertsev in Amsterdam on 10 August.

Stating that she was shocked by the events, Malik stated that they were in contact with lawyers regarding the issue and said that her husband did not do anything illegal.

FIOD announced today that they have arrested a 29-year-old, developer of Tornado Cash, the crypto mixer that allows users to hide their funds.

FIOD did not choose to disclose the name of the person arrested. It was claimed on Twitter that this person was Pertsev.

What Happened?

The USA’s announcement that it has imposed sanctions on Tornado Cash in the past few days has started a witch hunt about the protocol. Circle announced that it has frozen USDCs in the protocol, and many protocols have attempted to restrict Tornado Cash.

Dutch authorities also arrested Alexey Pertey, who was in Amsterdam, on August 10, following the decision of the United States.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, speaking after the sanction decision, revealed that he had previously used Tornado Cash to help Ukraine.
