Chinese technology giant Alibaba has announced that it will launch its own artificial intelligence product called Tongyi Qianwen.
Alibaba’s cloud computing unit said that the chatbot, which will rival ChatGPT, will soon be integrated with other applications. However, the statement did not include details about the timeline. In recent months, many tech companies from around the world have introduced their own artificial intelligence chatbot.
The Project Will Integrate With Other Applications
Alibaba announced earlier this year that it is working on an app that rivals ChatGPT.
Saying that the name Tongyi Qianwen means asking a thousand questions and seeking an answer, Alibaba did not announce the English version of the name. Daniel Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba, said in his speech at the launch of the project: “We are at a technological turning point driven by productive artificial intelligence and cloud computing.”
Tongyi Qianwen, which will offer services in English as well as Chinese, will initially be added to Alibaba’s workplace messaging app DingTalk, the company said.
According to the statements made, the new chatbot will perform a number of tasks such as converting conversations in meetings into written notes, writing e-mails and preparing job offers.
Alibaba announced that the new project will also be integrated into Tmall Genie, which is similar to Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant system.
Interest in productive AI has grown since Microsoft-backed OpenAI launched ChatGPT. Microsoft spent billions of dollars on ChatGPT, which it integrated into the search engine Bing in February. The US software giant also said it will add a version of ChatGPT to Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Recently, Google and Chinese technology group Baidu also announced their own artificial intelligence models and published similar chatbots.
