A while ago, it was confirmed by the company that ChatGPT users’ data was breached and sensitive information was revealed. This ban came after that. On the other hand, various European countries, especially those from Germany, have contacted Italy’s regulatory agency. It looks like ChatGPT will be scrutinized in Europe.
ChatGPT may be banned in more European countries
A spokesperson for the Irish Data Protection Commission said in a statement: “We are following the case to understand the actions of the Italian regulator and the basis for the decision, and we will coordinate with all EU data protection authorities on this matter.”
The Italian investigation into OpenAI was launched after a cybersecurity breach last week showed people excerpts from other users’ ChatGPT conversations and their financial information. OpenAI was accused of not checking the age of ChatGPT’s users, who must be 13 years or older, and illegally collecting data. Italy also became the first Western country to ban a chatbot powered by artificial intelligence.
