Airbus announced the first A380 flight powered by 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as part of its mission to reduce the carbon footprint of the aviation industry. The SAF used was created from used cooking oil and other waste oils.

flying on edible oil 27 tons of unblended SAF were provided for Airbus’s A380 test aircraft MSN 1 with Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine. The plane, which took off from Blagnac Airport in Toulouse, France, made a three-hour flight.
SAF, mainly composed of used edible oils and other waste oils, was made from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA), which do not contain aromatics and sulphur.
Airbus states that it has certified all its current aircraft with up to 50% SAF mixture mixed with kerosene. The company says its goal is to achieve 100% SAF certification by the end of this decade.

A380, It’s not the only Airbus aircraft type to fly 100% SAF. Previously, an Airbus A350 in March 2021 and an A319neo single-aisle aircraft in October 2021 had also flown with 100% SAF.
