According to the latest tweet by the official Age of Empires account, a new expansion pack called Rome Campaign is coming for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. So when will this new version go on sale? Here is the Return of Rome release date…
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Return of Rome release date:May 16!
A remastered version of Age of Empires II was released in late 2019. It then received several expansion packs, followed by annual DLCs such as Lords of the West (January 2021), Dawn of the Dukes (August 2021) and Dynasties of India (April 2022).
Finally, last year’s release of Dynasties of India added an extensive amount of content in the form of three new civilizations, the Dravidians and the Gurjaras. All three new versions have been added to the base game. So three new empires Babur, Rajendra and Devapala have joined us. Also, the entire Indian civilization in the game has been renamed to Indians.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Return of Rome is actually not the first time we come across it. It was briefly announced on October 25, 2022, in a live broadcast to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the AoE game series. However, the Return of Rome release date was announced as May 16 today. So it will come sooner than expected.
Details about its content are not yet known. However, it is estimated that it will contain all 16 original civilizations. The naming of Return of Rome may have been deliberately chosen to refer to the version of The Rise of Rome offered for the first game in the Age of Empires series.
