In the past months, the successful CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has come to the fore with his attempts to buy Twitter. He first shook hands with the board of directors to buy a 9 percent stake in the company, and later all of it.

However, over time, the ties of the 2 parties, which could not agree on many points, including the number of bot accounts, came to the breaking point. In the end, Musk even filed a lawsuit with the company, announcing that he would withdraw from the deal. It looks like the ice is starting to melt. Because Twitter has started testing the authentication feature with a phone number.

Twitter is testing phone number authentication feature!

Many Twitter users already use the platform with various login methods such as phone numbers or email addresses. But the feature that is being tested today is very different from these. In fact, it is aimed directly at meeting the wishes of Elon Musk.

In the past period, Musk claimed that the data shared by Twitter with him was not correct. At the beginning of this, he was told that the number of spam/bot accounts was 5 percent. Because, according to Musk’s private research, the real number is 4 times that.

Therefore, the purchasing process has been suspended. Musk, on the other hand, asked the company to share the actual data. He said that otherwise the agreement would be void. But Twitter denied all that was said and defended the accuracy of the data. Thereupon, the famous CEO announced that the acquisition process was terminated due to violations by Twitter.

However, with the feature that has been passed to the testing phase today, this information will be included in the profile section of the accounts that have verified their identity with their phone number, that is, they are not bots. In this way, even if the numbers that Musk wants are not given, it will be understood which account is not a bot, but a real user.

This seems like an interim solution that Twitter provided to find a middle ground with Musk. Of course, in the past months, Musk has said that if this purchase takes place, he can take things as far as identity verification. But the phone number seems to be sufficient for now.

In addition, it was noticed that a new feature on the platform was started to be tested at the same time. Now, how many people see the tweets will be positioned next to the like counter at the bottom right of the relevant posts. However, it is not yet clear whether everyone or the person sharing this number will be able to see this number.
