Nightdive Studios remains committed to its mission to remake or, more familiarly, remaster classic first-person shooter titles. The company, which has successfully revived iconic series such as Doom, Quake and System Shock, has an important game that has not yet been touched: Unreal.

Unreal Remaster may come

Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick has expressed interest in remastering the original Unreal, but there is currently no confirmation that such a project is in progress. However, Nightdive Studios’ request alone is not enough because it is in the hands of Epic Games, the legendary 1998 FPS game. In addition, Nightdive’s boss, who tagged Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, said his company would be honored to collaborate with Epic on the reorganization of Unreal. However, there has been no official response from Epic so far.

The first game in the Unreal series was technically innovative for its time, and its successors laid the foundation for the original Unreal engine that fueled a significant portion of today’s most beloved games. Unfortunately, Epic has given limited attention to the series, which is important to this world of FPS. No new Unreal games have appeared since Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007, and Epic discontinued work on a reboot in 2018. Moreover, the company has recently removed the entire series from digital showcases.

Similar to the new releases of Quake, Quake II, and Rise of the Triad, the remaster version of Unreal by Nightdive will likely include numerous quality-of-life improvements and offer more advanced graphics.
