Mandatory ads may come to Android phones
Mobile advertising company Glance plans to launch its lock screen platform on Android devices in the US in the next two months. According to the report, Glance is in talks with US wireless carriers and plans to launch it on several smartphones within the next month.
Glance is a subsidiary of InMobi, an India-based mobile marketing platform. Among Glance’s investors is Google. Glance comes pre-installed on Android devices in some countries, including Samsung’s range of budget smartphones. This application can also be downloaded from the Google Play store.
In the idea put forward, Glance is planned to take its place on smartphones as a dynamic lock screen. The application will host updated content such as a different wallpaper, news headlines and video on the phone screen. But at the same time, ads will be part of the app.
It will be enough to unlock the phone to skip the content. However, Glance forces you to keep scrolling to get interesting items like news and original video. which means you get to see more ads.
With all this, this system that cannot be disabled can be really frustrating. It also seems likely to contribute negatively to the performance of the phones. Although there is no official statement yet, it is said that the application may be active in the USA in a few months.
