Software giant Microsoft has added a new privacy-focused tool to Windows 11. The feature, which is included in the test version of the operating system, will allow users to learn about applications that access sensitive hardware such as cameras and microphones.
The privacy control feature was announced on Twitter by David Weston, Microsoft’s vice president of enterprise and operating system security. The new tool is currently available in the preview build of Windows 11. It’s in the Privacy and security section of the Settings app.
It will increase transparency
The privacy control tool, which will allow Windows 11 users to monitor the overall security of their computers, will show when applications last accessed sensitive information such as components such as the camera and microphone, as well as location data.
The feature, which is currently undergoing pre-testing, will allow tracking of suspicious activity. It will also make the user experience more secure and increase transparency regarding the activities of applications. It’s unclear when the privacy control will become generally available.
