Standard and HD quality options
The messaging platform has started testing a feature that makes it possible to share HD photos while preserving their size. The new function allows you to choose the resolution of the image before sending it. There are two options: Standard quality (1600 x 1052 pixels) and HD quality (4096 x 2692 pixels).
Pictures are marked with HD icon in chat when you send them in high resolution. However, it should be noted that the HD quality option does not mean sending the image in its original size. Even when this is selected, the app compresses the image, depriving it of some detail.The new feature is currently available in beta versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS 2.23.12.13 and 23.11.0.76 respectively. It is not yet known when the high-resolution image sending feature will be made available to the general public.
