Activision-Blizzard has issued an apology for the images of the Qur’an in the Call of Duty: Vanguard game. In the images that were first shared on social media, it was seen that some pages written in Arabic letters and determined to belong to the Qur’an were scattered on the ground in an irregular manner. It was also noteworthy that the pages were smeared with blood.
The incident came to the fore on social media platforms and forum sites, especially Twitter. While many users called for a boycott of Activison due to this attitude, it invited players not to play Call of Duty: Vanguard and other CoD games. Making a statement on the reactions, Activision admitted its mistake and apologized to the Muslim community.
“Quran content in Call of Duty: Vanguard game was insensitive”
In a statement released on its Call of Duty Middle East account, Activision-Blizzard admitted that the content in question was “insensitively” placed in the game. Saying that “it should never have looked like that”, referring to the images of the Qur’an in the Call of Duty: Vanguard game, the company stated that they would take the necessary steps to avoid such situations and said:
“Last week, there was content that was insensitive to the Muslim community and was accidentally placed there. Removed from the game. It was never meant to be what it looks like in the game. We deeply apologize for this. We take immediate steps to prevent such situations from occurring in the future. ”
Quran images in Call of Duty: Vanguard game first appeared on social media. A user shared the screenshots and said, “I see Quran pages on the ground in zombie mode. If it is true, I can say that it should be removed as soon as possible,” he said.
The fact that the pages of the Qur’an were scattered on the floor and stained with blood was at the center of the reactions. Upon the spread of the event, users collectively united against Activison and called for a boycott. Developers working in different game studios were also involved. Although the company has removed the scenes in question from the game, the reactions still have not completely subsided.
