Electric scooters, whose popularity is increasing day by day, have started to become the first choice of those who want to go short distances. However, discussions about these tools have been increasing recently both in our country and in the world. Many people were reacting to the use of vehicles due to accidents and scooters being left everywhere.
A few months ago, we saw that the tension was growing, and the moves about scooters started to come from the municipalities in Istanbul. Afterwards, Martı announced that it had reached an agreement with IMM. On the other hand, some rental companies had withdrawn from Istanbul. While the discussions were going on, there was a new development on the subject today. IETT General Manager Dr. Buğra Gökçe announced that they have prepared an action plan about scooters.
The new plan aims to facilitate the use of scooters and reduce problems.

According to Gökçe’s announcement on Twitter, the new plan will both facilitate the use of scooters and reduce the problems caused by irregular parking. It was also stated in the statements that an “E-Skuter” commission would be established. Gökçe says that with this commission, district municipalities, operators and the administration will act together.
The plan consists of many key moves such as parking areas, speed limits and training. The steps to be taken with the action plan are as follows;
1500 parking areas will be established
With the new action plan, 1500 parking lots will be opened in Istanbul. Operators will also contribute to the construction of park areas whose locations are determined with district municipalities. In addition, users who park there will not be charged an opening fee corresponding to 10-15% discount.
Sensitive areas will be determined, there will be a speed limit in these areas
According to Gökçe, city centers with heavy pedestrian traffic will now be defined as “sensitive areas”. The speed limit in these regions will also be regulated as 12.5 kilometers per hour.
Users will be trained, IstanbulKart integration will come
Finally, Gökçe adds that operators will now provide training to their users every 2 months. It is also stated in the statements that the mobile applications of the companies will be integrated with IstanbulKart and solutions will be developed to ensure full integration with public transportation in the process.
