Android app market There are really, really many apps on the Google Play Store. Likewise, Apple’s application market, the App Store. Many of these applications no longer receive updates and are completely abandoned by the developers. Well, what happens if you install one of these apps on your phone?

First of all, let’s start by saying: Especially when downloading any app on Google Play Store, take a look at the developer company and read the reviews for the app. Because, as it is known, the Google Play Store is an application dump as well as having a wide range of useful applications. In other words, among the applications included, there may be many malicious applications that can harm your devices and therefore your data and access your personal information.

There are a lot of apps in the App Store, yes, but it’s a bit of a relief that they are approved by Apple. However, both markets are currently experiencing a major problem: Abandoned applications.

Abandoned applications, as we said, consist of outdated applications that no longer receive new updates after they are published by the developer team. Analysis firm Pixalate conducted a study on this and found more than 1.5 million abandoned applications among the more than 5 million applications it examined.

Outdated and no longer updated applications pose a significant security risk to users. Fortunately, Google and Apple are aware of the situation and are planning to take action in this regard.

Apple has recently updated its App Store policy and announced that it will categorize these abandoned apps without updates and begin deleting them soon. Accordingly, developers will have 90 days to update these apps in question, otherwise they will be removed from the store by Apple. A similar move will be made by Google. Google also made a statement on this subject and announced that it will start removing such applications by the end of this year.
