The average person spends one-third of his life sleeping. An initiative called Prophetic claims to have discovered a way for people to use this process to produce and work. The headband, which the company calls Halo, allows its users to work in their dreams, called lucid dreams or lucid dreams. So the claims are in this direction…
Lucid dreaming or lucid dreaming is a concept frequently used, especially in parapsychology and metaphysics studies. To put it very simply, in such dreams we realize that we are in a dream. Often people wake up when they realize they are dreaming or cannot control their dreams. The aim of the company is to give people control of their dreams.
Is it possible to work while sleeping?
Eric Wollberg, the founder and CEO of the company, said in his statement to Fortune that “the only limiting factor is your imagination”, and as examples of the usage areas of the technology they developed, a CEO can test the investor meeting he will hold in his dreams, an athlete can try different games and a web designer can try different games. It shows that you can create themes.
In fact, there are other products that claim to control lucid dreams and thus be more productive, but since there is no proven product in this field, new projects continue to emerge. Prophetic, on the other hand, takes a different approach by focusing on creativity and problem-solving abilities. Lucid dreams will not be used to solve specific problems, but to reveal more creative and unthinkable solutions. For example, an engineer will not find a mathematical answer to the problem he encounters, he will find an alternative way to solve the problem.
How will Halo work?
According to the first designs, we will wear Halo like a crown. Afterwards, Halo will send ultrasonic waves to the part of our brain related to lucid dreams. These waves will also trigger the part of our brain related to lucid dreams. The team developing Halo includes Card79 founder Afshin Mehin, who also took part in the development of Neuralink’s N1 device. So it looks like the team knows what they’re doing.
Although Wollberg says that their goal is to control dreams, there are those who are skeptical about the technology. “It’s not that simple,” says Professor of Psychology Antonio Zadra, a sleep and dream expert at the University of Montreal, about controlling dreams. According to Zadra, it is not easy for someone who realizes that he is in a dream to stay in the dream. Just because Halo can trigger lucid dreams doesn’t guarantee dream control, he says.
In response to these claims, Wollberg pointed to studies revealing the link between frontal cortex activation and the ability to control lucid dreams. However, almost all of these studies also recommend more detailed studies on the subject. The device developed by Prophetic is based on the work of the Donders Institute in the Netherlands. With the work to be completed in 2024, the parts on which Halo will focus specifically will become clear.
It is possible to enter the pre-order queue by paying 100 dollars for Halo, which will have a price between 1500 and 2000 dollars. Although the company did not give an exact number, their statement that they earned several hundred thousand dollars from this system shows that thousands of people are already queuing for Halo.
