A UFO-obsessed Republican Congressman has proposed an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act to provide a new protection program for UFO whistleblowers. Representative Mike Gallagher is pursuing a new resolution to establish a process for receiving reports on Unidentified Weather Events (UAP). It is hoped that with the implementation of these new resolutions, soldiers and contractors will feel more comfortable sharing details of the unexplained events they have seen on the battlefield.

According to Gallagher, whistleblowers should feel comfortable that they will not break secrecy laws and will be protected from retaliation. Reportedly, among those who want to talk about the UFO are those who say they have evidence of alien life but cannot reveal it for fear of being imprisoned.

The idea that the United States has secret ties to alien life can be seen as a hobby of sorts that was of great interest to Gallagher. Politico reported in May that Gallagher used a House Intelligence Committee meeting to squash Pentagon officials about a glowing orb floating over Montana and briefly shutting down a nuclear weapons facility in 1967. This story apparently comes from the book Unidentified: The UFO Phenomenon by former USAF aviator Robert Salas. Pentagon officials at the time denied that there was any hidden wealth of evidence of alien life.

In 2020, the Pentagon released a series of videos it received regarding UAPs that showed pilots catching something moving in their sight. However, officials added that there is nothing more to share and they have not been able to prove to anyone’s satisfaction that the events depicted were the result of an alien invasion.
