Buying a house and avoiding paying rent is among the biggest dreams of many people. Well, have you ever thought that this could happen through a ‘hairpin’? A TikTok phenomenon in the USA succeeded in this and sat on the world agenda. The woman, who has a TikTok account named Trademeproject with 5 million followers, only got a house by bartering.

The famous TikTok phenomenon named Demi Skipper started a project called Trade Me Project in May 2020 and embarked on a trading adventure that started with a small ‘hairpin’. Skipper’s purpose in this project; was to buy a house for himself by increasing the exchanges he made. The US phenomenon recently achieved this goal and became a host.

Hairpins were exchanged and turned into a house

First of all, it should be said that this adventure of Skipper was inspired by a man who had the same goal as himself in 2006. This man named Kyle Macdonald had managed to become a home owner by exchanging a small paper clip with online exchanges he made in those years. The adventure named Trade Me Project followed a similar process.

Skipper first traded a ‘hairpin’ for a pair of earrings in his trades, which he started in May 2020. The 30-year-old woman, who made her first few trades in the city of San Francisco, later started to expand her trades with sites such as eBay, Facebook and Craiglist and got a vacuum cleaner.

Later, these exchanges began to spread throughout the USA and attracted the attention of many people. Skipper then traded the vacuum cleaner for a snowboard, the snowboard for a laptop, and the computer for a camera. After that, the swaps turned into an iPhone and a 2008 Dodge brand. This vehicle was then exchanged for a Mini Cooper car.

Some problems encountered in the trading adventure

After this Mini Cooper trade, there was a problem with the trade. Skipper traded his Mini Cooper for a necklace thought to be $20,000. It was later revealed that this necklace was worth less than $2,000. However, the woman did not give up on her ultimate goal and continued her exchanges. After that necklace, Skipper got an exercise bike, a shed, a Honda CRV and three tractors. All three tractors were exchanged for an energy storage product, the Tesla Powerall. This Tesla Powerall was later replaced with a $40,000 trailer.

Skipper, with 5 million subscribers, managed to achieve his dreams after this trailer swap and traded this trailer for a house in Nashville state. In her statements, the American phenomenon stated that she and her husband are planning to move to their new house from California next January. This adventure of the woman became a worldwide agenda and inspired many people.
