Climate change, which manifests itself all over the world, also makes its effects felt strongly in our country, which experiences four seasons. Simply put, we can easily see this change by looking at the unstable temperatures we currently see or how the seasons have passed in past years.
Due to the climate change in question, drought is also evident in addition to the decrease in precipitation in our country. In this context, despite the rain, we see a decrease in the occupancy rate in the dams. The reemergence of the submerged village in Kahramanmaraş also shows the seriousness of the situation.
The name of the place in question is Şadalak village. Well, at least it was when it was still a village.
The Menzelet Dam was built in this region between 1980 and 1989 for energy production on the Ceyhan River. With the construction of this dam, the village was evacuated and flooded. As 2020 approached, the village started to show its face again as the amount of water here decreased. Now it’s here again.
According to Avcılar Neighborhood Headman Abdurrahman Kayaalp, the local people were sent to various places during the construction of this dam, which is 40 years old. His explanation is as follows:
“With the construction of the dams in 1987, the people of the region were sent to various places. However, there are a few houses available. As you can see, water is limited in our region. Every year during this period, the water level of the Menzelet Dam dropped due to the lack of rainfall. Naturally, as the water receded, the locations of the old houses came to light. In fact, this was an important point in the past and the Kayseri road passed through this route. There are also old houses, historical castles and Ali Rock.”
