Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, announced that they will continue to offer Call of Duty on PlayStation with his share on Twitter. Having made a binding agreement with Sony in this regard, Microsoft has thus eliminated the fears of Call of Duty becoming an Xbox exclusive game.
Microsoft has taken similar steps to address monopoly concerns before. The giant company signed a historic deal with Nintendo and promised to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles. Such steps have strengthened Microsoft’s hand against the FTC.
While Microsoft has taken important steps to address concerns over a Call of Duty monopoly, the company’s debate over cloud gaming continues. According to the UK Competition and Marketplace Authority, Xbox Game Pass potentially accounts for 70 percent of the cloud gaming market share. There are concerns that if this market share increases, it could harm competition and reduce quality.
