Sony has started testing the long-awaited new resolution option for PlayStation 5. PlayStation 5, which previously supported 720p, 1080p and 2160 (4K) resolutions, will soon have the highly requested 1440p option.
PlayStation 5 gets new 1440p resolution
Sony has announced that it has started testing 1440p resolution support for the PlayStation 5 game console. Starting today, testers will have access to 1440p support in a new PS5 system software beta with curated playlists for their library and new social features.
The new 1440p resolution option will be available to PS5 owners on compatible televisions and monitors. For the new resolution settings to fully work, games must also support 1440p resolution. Otherwise, 4K games will be rendered with advanced anti-aliasing.
PS5 owners with beta software can check if their HDMI-connected displays support 1440p in the display and video section of the PS5 board. Sony warns that Variable Refresh Rate will not be supported at 1440p and will only work in 1080p and 4K on PS5.
The latest software update to PS5 models also brings with it new game lists designed to make it easier to organize games. Up to 15 lists can be created, each of which can fit 100 games.
Sony also brings new social sharing features. With the new features, you’ll be able to send requests to your friends to start sharing their screens, and receive notifications when you join a party that show you when you can join your friend’s ongoing game. In addition, stickers and voice messages can be sent within the party from now on.
Sony has started testing the new PS5 software with beta testers. Probably all PS5 owners will get new features in the coming months. So what do you think about the new 1440p resolution option? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
