According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bandai Namco has rolled up its sleeves for a Pac-Man action movie. The Japanese publisher is said to have turned to Wayfarer Studios, known for their work on Five Feet Apart in 2019, to develop the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is being produced by Sonic the Hedgehog producer Chuck Williams.

The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, and Bandai Namco may also decide not to move forward with the project. However, Williams’ involvement says a lot about the company’s prospects. In 2020, Sonic the Hedgehog also set a record for video game film in the United States after making $57 million at the local box office on its opening weekend. Despite the pandemic, the movie managed to earn $319 million.

Sonic 2, which came two years later, repeated this success with a US$71 million opening.

Without a doubt, Bandai Namco would like to see similar success. Considering Pac-Man’s previous successes, this doesn’t seem too improbable.
