With the development of technology, satellites have become the most important part of our world in terms of communication. With the increasing number of communication networks, hundreds of satellites are covering the Earth’s environment. But over the years, like everything else, these satellites need to be updated.

GSMA and European Space Agency join forces

The GSMA and the European Space Agency (ESA), which are working on this subject, are coming together to create the next generation space networks. The two organizations signed a letter of intent to work together on innovative satellite and terrestrial network technologies.

Together, these two organizations aim to make both the mobile and satellite network industries more competitive. As a result of the joint efforts to be made, it is aimed to create an ecosystem that can accelerate the development of complementary solutions for both businesses and consumers.

The partners are also expected to accelerate innovation regarding the integration of satellite communications with 5G and upcoming 6G networks. GSMA’s recent research shows that greater adoption and integration of satellite technologies in the communications industry has the potential to increase revenue earnings by $35 billion by 2035.

With the coming together of the two organizations, it is aimed to present innovative solutions based on 5G and 6G for the satellite industry. By sharing ideas and test results, these two organizations will assist each other in the integration of 5G and future 6G communications with non-terrestrial networks.

Stating that they are looking forward to working with GSMA to discover and realize the huge potential of the next generation satellite-enabled connection, ESA 5G and 6G Strategic Program Space President Antonio Franchi stated that they continue to work on this issue.
