YouTube has announced that starting today, it will stop annotating the “number of dislikes” a video receives. The company said the purpose of this change is to prevent smaller content providers’ work from being deliberately bombarded with dislikes to discredit them. It was also underlined that YouTube prefers to be an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves.
If creators want to see how their content gets a reaction, they will still be able to see the number of dislikes in YouTube Studio. This allows the creator to receive feedback specifically and act accordingly.
Creators rely on feedback from likes and dislikes to understand their viewers’ opinions and adjust accordingly if necessary. The problem is that the dislike system has become a tool to harass and abuse creators without providing any meaningful feedback, and YouTube wants to eliminate this problem with its new step.
