If you own any iPhone with Face ID introduced after the iPhone XS, you’ll probably be happy to hear that repairs to the Face ID component will soon be a lot less troublesome. Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will soon be able to repair Face ID without having to replace the entire phone, according to an internal Apple memo from a reputable source by MacRumors. This will be achieved thanks to a new TrueDepth camera service component that will be introduced.
This move will offer a number of benefits and at least once you have your phone serviced for a Face ID repair, you won’t have to set it up like a new phone when it comes back. An arguably even greater advantage of this decision is that, as Apple has pointed out, it is environmentally important to repair a phone rather than replace it.
Apple has said that parts, documentation, and training for the repair will be available at a later date, though it hasn’t provided a specific date.
Apple has made a number of moves recently to make iPhone repairs easier, with the introduction of Apple Self Service Repair, which allows users to fix their iPhone themselves. Also, a feature has been added to iOS 15.2 that tells you if your iPhone has been repaired using official parts. In line with this latest news, Apple had previously made it possible to replace the back glass of the iPhone 12 without replacing the entire device.
