Apple’s iPhone SE (2022) may have only been released a few months ago, but rumors are already swirling about the next iteration in the budget smartphone lineup, and the latest rumor suggests we may be saying goodbye to the iconic home button once again.

The current iPhone SE model has a pretty close design to the iPhone 6 released in 2014. With a 5.4-inch screen and a single rear camera, the phone houses the iPhone’s iconic home button (with built-in Touch ID) at the bottom of the screen.

However, Jon Prosser, a guest on the Geared Up Podcast, hinted that the iPhone SE 4 will take the iPhone XR as an example. It will likely still have a single camera, but it will have a slightly larger 6.1-inch display and lose the physical home button and Touch ID for Face ID.

Apple removed the home button from its high-end smartphones with the release of the iPhone X in November 2017, and did not introduce a new iPhone with a home button shortly after it stopped production of the original iPhone SE in September 2018. However, just a year and a half later, the home button is back with the release of the iPhone SE (2020).

However, if this rumor from Prosser is true, we may be saying goodbye to the button once again with the release of the fourth generation of the iPhone SE.

However, as always, it may be helpful to approach this rumor with some skepticism. It can be speculated that any design decisions have yet to be finalized, as we’ll likely see the next iPhone SE two years from now, according to Apple’s current release policies.

And while Prosser is certainly one of the experts on Apple rumors, his track record has been shaken up a bit lately. However, considering this rumor, there is a possibility that it is justified, since removing the home button is a very logical decision.
